Damsel In Distress

The damsel in distress never becomes a strong woman 

until she awakens from the fantasy of being rescued

by a knight in shining armor. 

The damsel uses her emotional weakness

and her physical beauty as sources of power, 

and as ways to get her needs met by others.

She hopes and dreams of rescue from the struggle and pain of life,

longing to be whisked away to live happily ever after in an enchanted land.

She does this blindly,

in her innocence not knowing the cost,

and for a while at least, 

It seems to work with little price,

until, her beauty fading, she begins to age and mature,

and she recognizes just how much weaker giving her power away made her.

Through her over-reliance on others,

she blocked her ability to find true power for herself.

She sees that she is stronger than she allowed herself to be,

that all along she pretended to be weaker than she 

ever truly was, and that all along her weakness was an act. 

This realization is the magical elixir that awakens her

to her true power that laid dormant for so long.

She calls back the power that she gave away to others

and begins to embody her innate power and resilience,

standing in the truth of who she is.

She rises like a phoenix from the ashes and becomes the Queen of her own life.
